Our favourite local . . . a wide and varied menu that has rarely let us down. Always something that appeals and the team here really go out of their way to make the welcome special and the visit memorable. Great beers and wines.
Recently there has been a revision to make the entry to the car park safer, and there is now a front garden for dining out, or supping, looking towards the Long Man.
Once a month they have a special Five Dining Experience, which is well worth trying to savour a selection of 5 Starters or Sweets (you choose the balance between savoury and sweet that you want). A brilliant idea, well executed.
My family and I have grown up with the Sussex Ox. When my children were small it was a fantastic place to bring them and now they are grown-up it is an even more fantastic place to bring them! The ambiance, the friendly staff and the excellent hosts, not to mention the wonderful food, are the best! For an initimate meal or for Sunday lunch, the food is to die for...
We visited your pub today (fri 21/07/06) for lunch and wish to congratulate you on every aspect. The service, food and surroundings were without fault. we would especially like to say how refreshing it is to go to a country pub and not have our meal spoilt by unruly children, we really appreciated a proper adult pub with food cooked by proper chefs and served by people that care not sullen teenagers.
I ate at the Sussex Ox on Wednesday evening as one of a group of six. We enjoyed our meal and watching the fantastic sunset over Firle Beacon very much.
I stumbled upon your establishment on Thursday after trying to escape form the rain! I would like to commend you on your menu, I had the Ostrich Steak, and the high level of customer service and friendleyness of staff. I have already recommened you to my family and friends and hope to be back for treacle tart in the very near future.
Came the a few weeks back for supper and loved it! Our links to the Ox go way back to the '80s as my family have all worked there behind the bar or washing up!
My wife and I brought friends when we took up the offer, and we all thoroughly enjoyed the experience, especially the fact that chef not only had game on the menu but also he knew how to cook it. Many thanks to you all for a great lunch.
I visited The Sussex Ox as part of a work's christmas meal. I have to say i was impressed with the food and more importantly the service. We was not hurried the food arrived in good time. I particular enjoyed the Chicken on the christmas which just melted into my mouth. Well done to the chefs and to the lovely staff. Thankyou.
I was looking for somewhere that looked fantastic to take some friends out for an eveing meal on 20th Jan and when i saw your pub i was ecstatic, it looks perfect as did the menu. However all of a sudden i see that you are a smoke free pub and i am so dissapointed. Nevermind, i guess that i will just have to keep looking. I wish you every success and hope that all goes well for you in your non smoking enviroment. A very brave move to do this before 1st July.
Give us back our lovely, child friendly camping pub
We would just like to thank you, your staff, and particularly the kitchen team for a wonderful evening yesterday. Well done to you all!
This pub never disappoints. For a reminder of how a pleasant S. Downs pub serving excellent food and drink can be ruined by smoke and families running wild - adults and their children - just visit (pub name withheld). It's bedlam there. The Ox manages to avoid that and retain its delightful unspoiled atmosphere. A gem of a pub to be treasured - and locally supported.
We visited The Sussex Ox on Friday 30 March to celebrate my mum's 70th birthday. Despite being full to capacity with a retirement party and several other visitors to cater for, we felt really well looked after and as always the food was excellent. Thanks
